Biography of Luis Eduardo Villegas López

Son of José Villegas and Rosa López, he was born in the town of Guatapé, in the rural area called La Culebra, on June 13th 1917. As a child, him and his family always participate in the Eucharist every Sunday in the local church.

His first years of life as a young adult, he dedicates them to agriculture, a job that he carried out for 10 years. Later he changed his profession to a master builder, in those days he met Maria Magdalena Hincapié Aguirre, who later became on his wife and with her formed a family of 5 sons and 3 daughters. December 21st 1913 in the town of El Peñol Antioquia. Luis Eduardo was a person of a quiet, jovial and laughing nature. He never showed a bad temper, always liked to make new friends and most people were looking for his company. He was greatly admired for his humility and humanity, a dreamer, self-taught person who was illustrated over time and one of his passions was writing verses and phrases in the wind. After climbing the stone in 1954, he became known as Colombia's greatest mountaineer.
